Project location

Kisima Pastoralists' Centre is located in Nyahururu, a small town about 200 km northwest of the capital Nairobi, on the southern margins of Northern Kenya. This location has been considered very carefully, taking into account the nature of the project, our long-term objectives and the nature of the target region and its people.

There are two main reasons for locating Kisima in Nyahururu:

1. The relatively stable socio-economic environment.
2. Its overall accessability, with its proximity to the central districts.

Unlike anywhere in Northern Kenya, Nyahururu is well provided for with transport, communication and power networks, clean water and hospitals, all of which will be necessary for Kisima to truly be a resource centre and to carry out its mission effectively.

The area around Nyahururu is relatively secure, compared to Northern Kenya. Since Nyahururu has a reasonably stable rain pattern it is also possible for Kisima to meet some if its food needs through engaging in small scale agricultural activities.
