Rejoicing in Success

24 March, 2010

Tuesday 2nd March was the day when the results of last year's Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education were due to be announced. It was an anxious day in the office as information was trickling in from different sources. At about six in the evening the official notification came and was eagerly read by staff members here at Kisima.

We are delighted to report that our 39 candidates scored the following overall grades:

Grade

A

B+

C+

These are fantastic results, especially considering that in the whole country, only 930 students scored an overall A grade (out of more than 337,404 candidates). Our top student had the 88th highest marks in the whole province, for which he got his name in the national newspaper. We have also heard that Kisima is the top school in the district and position 66 in the country. Students and teachers alike have worked very hard to achieve so much.

These results mean that seventeen students have qualified for government funded places at public universities, and will start degree courses in 2011. The others have a number of options available to them, incuding applying to middle level colleges. Already some have found employment as teachers or in other fields, while others have been taking a course in computer skills.

Since the results were released, many of these former students have come to visit us here at Kisima, where they have caught up with old friends and shared advice with the students who will face the exam this year or in the years to come.
