Awards and Celebration

22 June, 2010

The excellent performance of the Kisima students in last year's KCSE was awarded at a prize-giving day for schools in the district.

The event was held on 11th June at a primary school in Ol-Joro-Orok, a short drive from Kisima. David and Dan attended, along with two teachers and a selection of students from all the forms. To represent last year's Form Four class was Joseph Lengungwani, our top student.

The proceedings started with musical performances by various schools. The Kisima students entertained everyone with a traditional Samburu song and dance - it was a colourful display, thanks to their costumes which were bed spreads borrowed from the dormitories!

Then came the presentation of trophies, of which Kisima managed to get five - for being the best in English, best in Kiswahili, most improved school, best private school and best overall school.

There were also many certificates presented to the school and teachers for excellent results in other subjects. Joseph also received one, for having had the highest marks in the district. He was lifted high by some of the other students as they celebrated his achievements and those of the class as a whole.

Later in the afternoon, there was more singing and cheering as the returning students brought the trophies back to school. The day happened to be the first day of the World Cup and so the happy mood continued as everyone was allowed to watch the opening match!
