Another Fantastic Performance

The results of the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education were published on 28th February. Kisima's thirty eight former students were among those who had been waiting for this day since finishing their exams back in November. From their homes in various parts of the country, they were able to access their results by mobile phone, while here at school there was also much anticipation among current students and staff.

Afternoon lessons were disrupted so that everyone could gather in the hall to hear the results. There was great celebration when they heard that Kisima's candidates had achieved the following overall grades:

Grade

Number of students

A

4

A-

5

B+

14

B

7

B-

3

C+

1

C

3

C-

This means that the school has the 44th highest results in the country, out of 6,163 schools! Last year we were in position 66, so the students managed to fulfil their hope of doing even better than their predecessors. The teachers were very happy to see how their candidates had performed, and had advice and encouragement to give to the current students on how to work towards the same kind of results themselves.

In particular there has been big improvement in the middle of the class, which means that more students are assured of going to university than in previous years. We can be sure that the twenty three students with A, A- and B+ will get a government-funded university place, along with some, if not all, of the B students. Those with the other grades are eligible to apply for middle level colleges and other training or employment options. Transition to further education can be a slow process here and in the meantime our former students are already engaged in a variety of useful activities, such as teaching, working in shops and offices, helping their families, or running a small business.

We praise God for such encouraging results and we thank all our supporters for your part in it.
